Google added another E to the E-A-T formula (E-E-A-T)

Google has updated its Search Quality Rater Guidelines – for the second time this year, just 4.5 months after the last update.

The main change is the introduction of a new letter E at the end of the E-A-T concept for websites related to YMYL topics. Now the formula looks like this – E-E-A-T (Double-E-A-T) and is decoded as:

• Experience
• Expertise
• Authority
• Trustworthiness

The importance of "experience" in the E-E-A-T principle suggests that the quality of content should be evaluated through the lens of understanding how much direct experience the creator of that content has in the subject matter.

Reliability remains the most important component of the E-E-A-T:

"Content on pages that are designed to convey information about a wide variety of topics can have a low E-E-A-T score if the information is not trustworthy, safe, or in line with expert consensus. This also applies to information and YMYL recommendations that come from experts."

The updated Guide contains the following changes:

• Updated content quality assessment criteria to be more explicitly applicable to all types of sites and content creation models in the "Quality of Main Content" section
• Clarified site owner and content author recommendations for different types of web pages in the "Reputation of Sites and Content Creators" section
• Added more recommendations and explanations in sections relating to error pages, forums, FAQs, etc.
